Cello BanjoThe Cello Banjo is to the banjo family as the Cello is to the Violin family. If you appreciate the sound of a harp, you will love the cello banjo. I carried Doc's Banjo #100 (a 15 inch Cello Banjo) while my family and I were living in the wilds of Africa. It was the banjo I played at bedtime as a sleep time remedy for our three young children.
Although all of our Cello Banjos to date have had skin heads (typically deer or antelope), we can set one up with a renaissance head which will be much more tolerant to the cool, moisture-laden evening air and yet still maintain that sweet sound.
If life were perfect, all banjo players would all add a Cello Banjo to their repertoire. When life is rocky, a pleasant melody on the Cello Banjo helps bring peace to your soul.
One of my current favorite banjos is a 13 inch cello banjo with one of our archtop “Woodies”. Its sweet, low tone has a range from “delicate” to “rowdy”.
