Overview

Banjos
Our banjo design is simple because we focus on the beauty and tonal quality of the woods, perfect grain-matched joinery, sturdy and precise hardware, and a cohesive, sculpted design. We attend to every detail so that each heirloom-quality Doc’s Banjo is a delight for both the eyes and ears!

Our wood selection includes superb tone woods native to the Pacific Northwest, as well as tropical woods we personally hand pick and carry from Africa, Australia, Central and South America. We harvest many of the local woods ourselves, cure them for months, and test moisture content and stability for tonal quality before they are transformed into a banjo.

We choose our woods based on sound, color and durability. Whether the tone you prefer is rich and “woody” or bright and crisp, we’ll combine the right woods to create the tone you desire in a banjo that will stand the test of time. We take time with each customer discussing the specifics of each option so that we can build exactly the instrument you desire.

We design and use our own aged-brass hardware so that it functions perfectly and lasts forever! Our hardware is manufactured precisely, so it is easy to adjust and will not hum or buzz.

Every edge of wood and brass is honed to minimize friction as you play. Our aged patina metalwork looks vintage and complements the beauty of the woods.

Our durable wood finish is a proprietary mixture of polymerized oils that protects and enhances the beauty of the wood. Scratches are easy to repair! Our favorite finish allows you to see into the woods without the glare of gloss. We will produce the whatever level of “shine” that you prefer.
